Food for Thought

I think forgetting is the only form of self-escapology. Only when you forget, you are truly numb to all the pain and the hurt and the sorrows. You need to feel nothing at all. But how does one forget? Immerse yourself in memories of childlike innocence; read maps and trace rivers with the tips of your fingers; purchase an old film camera and take photographs of inanimate objects. And if all else fails, get lost in a big old city- go to Paris, go to New York. Smile at every stranger you see and collect stamps and old souvenirs. Walk miles and miles until your feet ache. Sit in an old cafe and write. Dance in the rain. Shift your attention to the most insignificant things. Study the creases of your palms. Make lists. Observe things, observe people. There’s something so beautiful about the way dust particles seem to dance about in the sun. Run around in pretty parks. Chase shadows. And eventually you’ll forget.
Today I forgot you.
